An over due update

Sorry for the lack of posts recently. I'm on facebook much more then I am over here. If you don't have a facebook account, you should get one. It's much easier to keep up with people on there then to go read 10 different blogs! Anyway...I figured I should take some time and post all the stuff that is already over there to my blog, for the poor few who have not yet discovered the joy of facebooking (is that a word?).

We have done a wonderful job so far of transforming the dead backyard that was here into a functional garden and play space for the kids.

Here is Keziah enjoying her outside swing.

Raquelle and her cousin Mikayla playing in our new sand box.

Titus, Raquelle, and their cousins Lily, and Mikayla playing on our new climber.

I love that our backyard is now a space to play and enjoy instead of one giant hazard for the kids! We have peas, cuccumber, brocoli, beans, lettuce, pumpkin, tomato, and zuccini planted in our vegetable garden. We have a row of baby raspberry bushes (thank you mom!), 2 blueberry bushes, and a beautiful row of rose bushes that are all growing very nicely! Sorry, I have not taken garden pictures yet.

Here are some other recent things....

Titus's hair was getting a little long. This is what I have been waking up to every morning for the last couple weeks...

The chunks of hair that I cut off were literally 3 to 4 inches long! Here he is after having his entire head buzzed to 1 inch. I like it...it shows more of his face!

I was suppose to blog about ag fest too where the kids got to see tons of animals, milk a fake cow, plat tomatos and trees, and do all sorts of fun stuff...but that was a month ago! Anyway...I hope you enjoyed the pictures and I will try to be over here more even though I prefer facebook.

For kicks and giggles

I'm not sure where this came from, or I would give credit. Someone e-mailed it to me though and I thought "how true!" This totally describes my day almost every day! Anyway...I think this is actually from a childrens book.

"If you give a mom a muffin, she'll want a cup of coffee to go with it.

She'll make herself some.

Her three year old will spill the coffee;

She'll wipe it up.

While wiping the floor, she'll find dirty socks.

She'll remember she has to do laundry.

When she puts the laundry in the washer, she'll trip over boots and bump into the box of Goodwill items.

Bumping into the Goodwill items will remind her that she has to get these boxes out of her basement and into the car.

When she puts the boxes in the car, she'll find a bag of groceries;

This will remind her she has to cook dinner.

She will get out the chicken defrosting in the fridge.

She'll look for her cookbook, "101 Things to do with Chicken."

The cookbook will be sitting under a pile of mail.

She will see the NetFlix movie she meant to send back and the phone bill, which is due tomorrow.

The checkbook will be in her purse that is being dumped out by her one year old.

As she bends down to rescue her purse, she'll smell something funny.

She'll change the baby's diaper.

While she is throwing the diaper away and searching for the hand sanitizer, the phone will ring.

Her three year old will answer and hang up.

She'll remember she wants to call a friend - not for coffee, but for a very strong drink.

Thinking of drinking will remind her that she was going to have a cup of coffee in order to stay awake for the rest of the day.

And chances are...

If she finds her cup of coffee (which she has to reheat by now),

Her children will have eaten the muffin that goes with it."

Strawberries!

It is the beginning of strawberry season! For all of you that don't know, not all packages of strawberries are created equal! For example...

I went to Winco for groceries last night and I see 4 lbs of strawberries for $5.50. What a great price. I always weigh my package before I buy it. I put the "4 lb" pk of strawberries on the scale and it weighs 4 lbs. Big surprise. I put it back and get the next one. It is 4.25 lbs. I try another and it is 3.8 lbs. At this point there is another customer checking out the strawberries and looking at me like I am crazy. I grab another package, put it on the scale....5.5 lbs! That's the one I was looking for! I smiled at her and put my 5.5 lb package in my cart and walked off. I looked back and saw here weighing the packages of strawberries too. It's not so silly when it makes you get a lb and a half of strawberries for free! So, the moral of the story, the great strawberry sales are even better if you take the time to weigh the packages and get one that is stuffed fuller then the rest! And to top it off, these are the sweetest strawberries so far this season!

The innocence of a child

Raquelle watched Cinderella yesterday (and today). It is so cute. She talks through the whole movie telling me what is happening (as if I can't see what is happening for myself). She says that the fairy godmother is Cinderella's "Granny" and she is convinced that the prince is Cinderella's daddy. "Her dancing with her daddy!" "Uh oh, her daddy can't find her!" etc.

In other quotes...we are working on teaching her her first middle and last name. So far, she gets them out of order and mispronounces all 3 names. When I ask "What's your name?" She says "Lizbit Charlotte Tell!" Today, I asked her "What's Ty's name?" She answered "Lizbit Charlotte Ty!" LOL.

Getting ready for summer!

We are getting the backyard ready for endless hours of outside play this summer. First, here is a picture of Kezzy hanging out while Thad and I worked.

I found a little Tikes 8 in 1 climber on Craigs list for less then half price! I have been calling Craigs list adds for these for 2 months and every time someone else beat me to it. This weekend, I happened to hop online and check just an hour after this one was posted...so we finally got it!

The kids are pretty excited. They stayed up past their bed time watching us put it together so they could play on it for a few min.

There are 3 different places you can put the slides and 3 different places for the tunnel to connect, so if it ever appears to get old, we will just change how it is set up, and it will be like new again.

We are getting a sand box this next weekend from a friend and when the whether turns hot we will add a little wading pool and be all set for the summer!

I've created a monster!

A couple nights ago, we were putting the kids to bed (as we do every night). I went in to tuck Titus in, and found he had removed all of his clothes and diaper. I stopped, surprised, and said "Titus! You're butt naked!" He smiled really big and repeated, "Ty Butt Nay Nay!" Thad walked in just in time to hear Titus and we both broke out laughing. That was the mistake. As soon as Titus realized he had said something funny, it was all a game. He took off running down the hall yelling "Ty Butt Nay Nay!" and laughing. We did get him back into his jammies and into bed shortly after. Since then, every time I try to put him in bed, he removes his clothes and stands on his bed calling to me "Ty butt nay nay!" Lessons learned...

1. Watch what you say in front of or to your children!
2. If they do say something that is funny, but you don't want them to repeat it EVER again, go to the other room to laugh where they don't see you!

Yesterday morning, I was doing some reading before the kids got up. Raquelle wandered very sleepily into the living room and said (quietly and with hand motions), "I wake now. The moon close his little eyes and he sleep now. The sun up. He open up his little eyes and he wake now and I wake now too."

Out of the mouth of babes

Raquelle:
"Jonah naughty! Jonah not obey God, have to go in time out in the whale! Jonah in the whale 3 days and then Jonah obey! I need to obey, I not want to go in the whale!"

"Ty not obeying! Ty need go in the whale!"

"Where the moon go?"

"Moon hiding"

"Look dada, cloud chase airplane!"

"No Ty, No talk with food in mouth!"

"I need a meal shake be healthy!"

"XS yummy! I need xs be healthy!"

"I need vitamin be healthy, not get sick"

"No eat too much candy! Eat too much candy get sick! I no want to get sick, I need be healthy. Eat too much candy need medicine."

Me - "What did you learn in your class?"
Raquelle - "I color, have snack and story time!"
Me - "What was your story about?"
Raquelle - "Jesus on the donkey!" (me) "Why is Jesus on the donkey?" "Jesus go to party! eat cake!" (palm sunday ss lesson?)

"No, don't get my idea wet!"

"I have a idea, clean up the toys!"

"Obey mommy and daddy make God happy!"

"Not obey get a spanking, Bible say so."

fighting over a toy -
Raquelle - "Mine!"
Titus "Mine"
Raquelle "Mine"
Titus "Mine"
Thad - "Titus, Raquelle!"
Raquelle - "Mine get shiny rocks!" (as in a gold mine)

At 6 AM
"The sun up mama! The sun open his eyes and now he awake! Sun up, time to wake!"

Bedtime prayer
"Thank you my nana (banana), thank you snack, thank you ty, thank you baby sister Kezzy sleep my room, thank you dada go work get food, thank you go store, thank you mama cook dinner, thank you go church to my class, thank you ty poop on the toilet - get two candies....." and repeat in various order all of the thankyou's above for about 5 min before ending with "amen".

Titus:
moomoo = movie -Raquelle "No Ty, Moobie"
geeee = please -Raquelle "Ty need not say 'geeee' Ty need say 'please'!"
Ty Wet! = either needs to go potty, or alreay has on the floor
Potty now! = that one is self explanitory
raw ru row = He wants Roc2o - an antioxident drink
No! Ma eat cacka = the dog stole his cracker
oura kick ty = He's lying, he was nowhere near Lauren. He just likes her to get in trouble.

Keziah:
ooooo aaaahhhh oooooo rrrrrrrr (rolling) etc.

Look what Keziah can do!

Keziah is learning to sit up! I sat her on our bed after her bath and left to go find her jammies. When I got back, she was still sitting up! She can sit for a few minutes at a time, not just a few seconds....And she is pretty excited about this new view of the world.

Leaning, Leaning....
And there she goes.

I just had to include this one. Raquelle is a born leader, and Titus will do anything she tells him to...even be Cinderella. He was so excited that she was sharing her outfit! I decided to refrain from telling him that boys don't wear high heals and carry purses...but I do think we need some boy dress up stuff for him. Maybe he'll get some for his birthday. If anyone sees a good cow costume, let me know!

Check ups

Keziah and Raquelle had their well child check ups yesterday. Here are their stats.

Kezzy:
Height - 25 1/3" - 72%
Weight - 16 lbs 3.5 oz - 85%

Raquelle:
Height - 36" - 24%
Weight - 29.5 lbs - 36%

Keziah is almost exactly half way in between Raquelle's size and Titus's size at that age.

Busy Days

Thad informed me that my blog was lacking in recent posts. I guess he gets online every so often to read about what the kids have been up to. So I thought I should get around to posting something. Then I noticed I hadn't done pictures for a while...so this post is mostly for the sake of photo updates.

Here is Keziah (right) playing with her buddy Charlotte (left), one of the little girls I babysit. It's kind of like having twins, only I only have to get up with one of them in the night, not both.

Keziah and Charlotte holding hands. Kezzy is interested in the camera, Charlotte is interested in Raquelle off to the side, who is copying me trying to get the babies to smile.
This is how Raquelle spent the Friday after a rough Thursday night. Keziah was awake until almost midnight. Titus woke up at midnight screaming and would not calm down. We finally got him calmed down and back in bed at 3 Am. Kezzy woke up hungry at 3:30 AM. Got her back to bed at 4 AM. My alarm went off at 5 to get up and get Lauren at the door, and then Titus was back up crying again at 5:30. Raquelle spent most of the night crying and saying "My brother! What's wrong with my brother!" Obviously, everyone except Kezzy was tired the next day. So we spent the day laying around watching movies.

And here is a random picture of Keziah that I decided to include because she is so cute. By the way, that is a 12 month outfit she is wearing. She is quite the chunk. I'm having to put her in larger clothes because of her chubbiness and then just roll the sleves or pants up to fit. Her 4 month check up is on Wednesday. I am going to guess she is about 17 lbs...similor in size to Titus at that age.

And here is Titus AKA "Captain Underpants", as his daddy has started calling him. Titus had no accidents on Saturday, and neither of us took him potty either. He is insisting on doing it himself. When he needs to go, he just stops what he is doing and strips in the middle of the living room and then runs into the bathroom and takes himself potty. Then he needs help putting his underwear back on.
One more thing with potty training...we upped the rewards and I've made a big deal to Titus that he gets 1 candy if he goes pee on the toilet, and 2 candies if he poops. Over the course of the weekend, he pooped twice on the toilet! It took Raquelle 6 months after we put her in underwear before she pooped on the toilet! Titus is definitely getting the hang of things. Hopefully, soon I will be able to put pants on him! For some reason, he does great when he is in his underwear, but when I put pants on him, it's like he forgets that he needs to stop and use the toilet...and that's when he has his accidents.

Potty update

Titus has been in underwear since Monday now with only one real accident! (That's 3 days). I think we have reached the point of no return now. I basically have a potty trained little boy! Yeah for only 1 in diapers now!

Oh, and on that same note, we are now trying to start on nap time with Raquelle. She has started insisting that she wants to wear panties at nap, so I told her she can wear them if she gets up to pee on the toilet and not in her bed. Of course, we put a waterproof pad on her mattress. She woke up half way through nap today crying. I went in assuming she would be soaked. She was slightly damp and crying that she needs to go potty on the toilet. So I told her to go potty, changed her underwear and put her back in bed. She was pretty excited.

As heard from the living room...

...where I was busy feeding the baby.

Raquelle: "Ty, you need to go potty on the toilet"
Titus: "Yah"
Raquelle: "Mommy, you need to help Ty go potty!"
Me: "I'm feeding the baby"
Raquelle: "I do it"

*pitter patter of little feet running toward the bathroom*
*sound of stools being moved against the floor*

Raquelle: "Take your pants off"
Titus: "Help!"
Raquelle: "Here, I do it"
Titus: "Thank you"
Raquelle: "Oh! You have a diaper on! You need to take it off!"
Titus: "Ok"
Raquelle: "Climb up there"

*More shuffling sound*

Raquelle: "Aim down" ... "Point it down Ty!" ...*pause* "AAAHHH! NO NO TY! NO PEE ON MY SHOE!"
TItus: "Sorry "

Raquelle comes running out to show me the damage to her shoe.
Titus comes running out (naked), points to the cupboard and says "Candy!"

Titus wore the same pair of underwear from nap time until bed time last night (one accident, but he wasn't wearing them at that time), and now he has been in the same pair with no accidents from first thing this morning until nap time. We are definitely making progress. He seems like he is really close to being potty trained, but at the same time he seems a long ways from it. He wants to wear underwear like Raquelle though, and I can't let him wear them unless he is going to go potty on the toilet!

How to lose weight

I've been asked this a lot in person too, not just on here. So I thought I would actually write about it. Maybe some of my experience can help someone else. If you don't need to lose weight, feel free to skip this post.

First, I don't want to be accused of plagiarism, so I need to mention that much of what I have learned about weight loss I learned from the book "Optimal Health Revolution" by Dr Duke Johnson. If you are interested in life long health and reducing your risk for heart disease, cancer and diabetes, andnot just weight loss, I highly recommend that book.

Ok...on with the topic at hand. Losing weight is simple really, if you understand how it all works. A calorie is a unit of energy. If you eat more "energy" then your body uses, your body stores the extra as fat and you gain weight. If you eat less "energy" then your body uses, then your body uses it's stored energy (fat) and you lose weight. So the only real trick to losing weight is knowing how much "energy" your body needs, and keeping track of what you give it.

1. How many calories should you eat. It's really simple. Take your weight x 10 if you are female, or 11 if you are male x your activity level.
Activity Level:

Sedentary - 1.25
Lightly avtive - 1.5
Moderately active - 1.65
Highly active - 2
Exceptionally active (athlete in training) - 2.3

So, lets figure this out for a 200 lb female with a desk job who doesn't get any other exercise. 200 x 10 x 1.25 = 2500. So she would need 2500 calories to maintain her weight. So, go ahead, open up the calculator on your computer and figure out your calorie number. Ok, you got it? Now...

1 lb = 3500 calories. So to lose 1 to 2 lbs a week, you need to subtract 500 to 1000 calories a day from that number. So our person in the example above would need to eat 1500 calories a day for an average weight loss of 2 lbs per week. Remember though...if she exercises at all, muscle weighs more then fat. So it is a good idea to keep track of measurements too, not just weight in order to track progress. Also, remember to re-calculate your calorie need every 10 to 15 lbs you lose.

Part 2....Track what you eat. Most people can not guess within 500 calories of how much they actually eat. I recommend making (and using) an account with Spark People. It's free. They have a data base that is really increadible with nutrition info on everything! You can pick what you had for breakfast and add it to your day and it will track calories, fat, protein, and any other nutrient you want it too. That handfull of chocolate chips you are eating at the computer while checking the blogs...that counts! Your pop which is basically sugar, carbonated water, and chemicles....that counts too. Using spark people to track calories and nutrients really helped me to see what was in the food I eat. From that, I now think about what I eat. You can eat at Taco Bell and still track calories. Spark People has nutrition info for meals at most fast food resteraunts. So...go over there and make yourself an account...AND USE IT! Spark people will also make recomendations on how much carbs, fat and protein you should have and will track your progress for you. All you have to do is be honest about what you ate and how much you ate. (For reference...3 oz of meat is about the size of a deck of cards)

One other thing that really helped me is 0 calorie foods. Everyone knows that if you eat celery, your body burns more calories in the process of digesting it then what the celery originally contained. What most people don't know is there is a whole list of foods similor to that. The above link is a list of foods that if you eat them, all of the calories they contain are burned in the process of digestion! Some of them, like celery, burn more calories then they contain.

So...how am I losing weight? I figured out how many calories my body uses and I am eating about 1000 calories a day less then that. If I am hungry or have the munchies, I try to snack on foods from th 0 calorie food list. Originally, I was also exercising twice a day, every day. I got up at 5 am to get a workout in before the kids woke up, and then I got a 2nd workout in at nap time. I need to get back on track with the exercise as I have slacked over the last couple weeks. Anyway... all that was to explain the basics of losing weight. In action...here is a typical daily meal plan for me.

Breakfast:
Go Lean cereal with banana and flaxseed added

Snack: Fruit

Lunch: Meal replacement bar

Snack: Snack bar

Snack: Fresh veggies

Dinner: Chicken breast
Brown rice
butter (for my rice)
Some sort of cooked vegetable
Fruit

Snack : snack bar

Anyway...I hope this information can be helpful to some of my blog readers. To those of you who were just curious, That's how I am losing weight. To those of you who need to lose weight, it is easier then it sounds. Once you track calories for a few days, or a week, you have a good enough idea of what is in your food that you don't need to track it anymore...although tracking it does help keep you from cheating. Good luck. If you use some of the methods mentioned and have success with it, let me know!

PS. A couple other things I thought of after writing this. Try to not go more then 2 hours during the day without some sort of snack or meal. If you are cutting calories and go too long between meals, your body will switch into starvation mode and try to hold onto everything it has. Also, if you have a high protein bedtime snack, the protein helps your body to continue metabolizing in your sleep instead of shutting down while you sleep.

Delayed Gratification

Delayed Gratification is a concept that I think has been mostly lost in our industrialized society. We have everything at our finger tips at a moments notice, why wait for anything? You can order a pizza online and have it delivered to your door within 30 min, drive through coffee and fast food, etc.

A couple years ago, Thad and I set some very specific goals for our lives over the next few years. We set a very strict budget and have been nazi's with it ever since. As part of this, we do not spend ANY money without consulting with each other first. Thad will call me from work to ask about getting a burger off the dollar menu if he didn't pack enough lunch to keep him full. If there is a sale on a favorite type of cereal, I will call and check with Thad before buying an extra box of it. As a result of being very goal oriented, we have been able to pay off a significant amount of debt in the last couple years (4 maxed out credit cards, the car, and about $6000 in medical bills). We finally reached the point where it was time for a reward. For all the times we didn't have the money to do or buy what we wanted because that money had another purpose, we are finally allowing ourselves spending money!

Here is my first purchase! It is a Kenneth Cole Reaction wool dress coat! I have wanted a wool dress coat for several years. I have watched several sales pass me by because it was not in the budget to buy a new coat that month. Because I waited, I got a much nicer coat! On the Kenneth Cole website, a Reaction wool coat is around $300! I found a similor one at Maceys for $180. Well, we also carry Kenneth Cole through our business (charlick.mychoices.biz) and those went on sale last week for $77! So, I got a $300 wool dress coat for $77! 2 days after I ordered it, they were out of stock in my size, so I got it just in time!

I think I will save the rest of my spending money for a few months in order to finish losing baby weight. (I have lost 16 lbs since January 1st...if you couldn't tell through the big coat).

Anyway, I know this was kind of a selfish post about myself... I promise some new pictures of the kids in my next post.

Here we go again!

I had planned on waiting until after our trip to San Diego this summer to potty train Titus because I did not want to have a 2 year old in underwear needing stops every hour on the drive. It has now become apparent that he is not willing to wait that long to be done with his diapers. Titus looks up to Raquelle. He copies everything she does. At a church potluck a couple weeks ago, the kids were all running laps around the big room. Raquelle tripped and fell. She said "OWE!" and got up and kept running. When Titus got to the spot she fell, he sat down, said "OWE" got up and kept running.

About 2 weeks ago, Titus noticed something. He noticed that Raquelle wears panties and he doesn't. He noticed that she goes potty on the toilet and he doesn't. And he started having fits about having to wear a diaper because he wanted "panties" like Raquelle. He started telling me over and over "Ty big boy! Ty Pannies!" So we went to the store and bought some "big boy Underwear" for him and started sitting him on the toilet. He got to wear his underwear a couple times for very short spirts before he peed them and had to wear a diaper. He was very interested in sitting on the toilet, but didn't seem to really know what it was for. Then he got sick so we stopped. When he got better, he started insisting that he needed his "big boy pannies". So I started letting him wear them in the evening when there were no daycare kids. 2 days ago, I finally caught him in the act of peeing them. I knew this would have to happen for him to understand what the toilet was for. I said "NO!" and picked him up and put him on the toilet. About 20 min later, the same thing. Another 20 later, and in his 3rd pair of underware for the evening, Titus jumped down from the table and ran by me into the bathroom. So I followed him and helped him up onto the toilet, and he peed! YEAH! Last night was the same. After wetting his underware twice, he went on the toilet the rest of the evening.

That brings us to today. This morning, I got his clean diaper out and was going to get him dressed and he Thew himself on floor and started crying "No Diaper, No diaper!" I asked "Do you want a diaper or your big boy underware?" He said "Big boy pannies!" So I told him if he pees in them he will have to wear a diaper. It has now been 3 hours, he is in the same pair of underware, and he has gone on the toilet three times! No accidents yet today. Much to my surprise, I think this boy is going to be daytime potty trained this week!

3 Months!

Keziah is 3 months old now! Where has the time gone? She has slept through the night 2 times so far, and not in a row. She is starting to be very interested in her play mats and has enough core muscle to go in her exersaucer now! We are finally past the thrush. I changed her dr, and her new dr was willing to give us the medicine that the internet said was most likely to work. I had to stop nursing for 2 weeks while she was on it so she wouldn't get it back off of me. Luckly, she went right back to nursing when we were done and has had no problems and the thrush has stayed away! She is now 13 lbs and is gaining weight a bit slower then she did before, but thats fine, she is chunky enough as is. She is generally a very happy baby, with the occasional rough night if I accidently eat anything with onion in it. That gives her a BAD tummy ache! Anyway...that's the update on her. Here are some long overdue pictures.

Here is Titus when everyone was sick. This was not taken during nap time. He asked to watch a movie and fell asleep on the couch. Aparently, on top of being sick, he had a stubborn ear infection. He is now on his 3rd antibiotic for the same infection that he has had since January 2nd! He seems to be doing much better now.

Now that we have lived in this house almost 6 months, I finally found the box with all the kids craft supplies! So they got to finger paint for the first time.

And here is a picture of Keziah today. Yes, she has a rash accross her forhead. I wish we knew what it was from. When she was sick and went to the dr, I pointed it out, but we weren't seeing her normal dr and the on call guy she saw didn't say anything about it. In fact, I think he was in and out of the room in less then 5 min for our whole visit! Thad thinks maybe a food allergy. We already know she is allergic to peanuts, so there is a good chance there is something else in my diet she could be allergic to also. I don't know where to really start with this one though.

And last but not least, all 3 kids in the same picture! Yes, Raquelle slept in her pigtails last night and I have not re-done them yet this morning, but hey...this picture was kind of spir of the moment.
And that's it for updates on the kids.

We are all pretty much over this nasty bug we had, except Thad thinks his settled into a sinus infection. He is debating calling the dr this morning. I have a new daycare child starting next week, so that makes 3. I will now be making more then I made working full time at minimum wage when we first got married, only this time my entire income will be tax deductible because it is a home business! I've decided that home business is the way to go. It's a great way to increase your household income without having to jump a tax bracket. Anyway...That's all for now.

Update

Raquelle is all better! Yeah! Titus is mostly better. Thad and I still feel like we have head colds. Kezzy is getting worse. I called her dr again yesterday and they had me take her in to urgent care. At the Urgent care clinic, the dr basically said the same thing as her dr had earlier this week. As long as her color is good and she is eating and having wet diapers, just wait it out.

This morning, she woke up with a fever of 102.8. No one else in the family has had a fever with this. She is also now refusing to eat. It is 2 in the afternoon and she hasn't had a wet diaper yet today and she has only eaten about 3 oz since midnight! Around lunch time, I used a medicine dropper to try to force some fluids into her. She has basically slept the enitre day, waking up only to cough and attempt to cry. So she is still very sick and could still use lots of prayers. I'm praying that tomorrow we will wake up to her being finally on the uphill side of this, but so far each day she has been a little bit worse then the day before.

Prayers Please!

If you are reading this, please stop and say a prayer for my family. Everyone is sick. To recap...

Titus had a clear runny nose last Friday all day. He was acting like he felt fine, played like normal...just a runny nose.

Saturday afternoon, Titus started coughing (literally on the way to Mikayla's birthday party.) We left the birthday party early because I was concerned that he might spread his cold to other people there. If anyone reading this got sick from his cough, I'm really sorry!

Sunday - Titus and Keziah stayed home from church with Thad. Raquelle and I went. Titus is now coughing Chronically and really hard.

Monday - Called the dr and made an appointment. Raquelle starts coughing too. Titus is coughing multiple times per minute, even while on cough syrup. I sent Raquelle with Titus to the dr since she was starting to get it too. They did a nebulizer treatment at the office because he couldn't breath. He was prescribed an inhalor. We found out his ear infection from a couple weeks ago had not cleared up, so we got different antibiotics for that as well. We were told if Raquelle gets worse, she can use Titus's inhalor too.

Tuesday - Raquelle is now using the inhalor too. Both kids are fussy and coughing constantly. I set up the baby gate in the hall to try to keep them from couthing on the baby. Thad and I both start to have a "scratchy" feeling in our throats.

Wednesday - Keziah now has it too. Titus and Raquelle are still just as sick as they were on Monday. Kezzy has a clear runny nose and is a little more fussy then usual. Thad and I are now both coughing and having bad sinus head aches. I take Kezzy to the dr. They tell me to watch and make sure her color stays normal when she coughs. If she starts having coughing fits bring her back because what is a bad cold for the rest of us could be RSV for her.

Thursday - Keziah is now coughing chronically too. Her color is staying good. Her nose is runny. She can't breath through her nose to be able to eat. Her nose is suctioned out so many times that by evening it is bleeding. She looses her voice from crying so much. By bed time, we decide to take shifts over night. We can see her cry, but hardly any sound is coming when she tries to cry. She sleeps 1 hour on Thads shift the first half of the night and 2 hours on mine. Thad and I are both now really sick. Titus seems a little better.

And finally today... Titus woke up with a 102.2 fever. Raquelle is crying and clingy. I let the daycare kids come since they have the same thing as us and Charlotte threw up all over the place. Keziah still has no voice so I can't hear her cry. She is coughing and has a runny nose. My sinuses are killing me and there seems to be no end in sight! I just called and left a message at the dr's office to have a nurse call me. I don't know if Titus needs to go back now that he has a fever. The fever could mean that his antibiotics are not working on his ear infection again.

So,...if you have a minute, please stop and pray for my family! Pray that we are all healed quickly from whatever nasty bug we have picked, pray that the daycare kids get over it soon too, pray for my sanity and pacients as I deal with clingy, crying sick kids on only a few hours of sleep...while being sick myself. Thanks.

Life updates

Titus finally had his 18 month checkup. He was due for it about the same time his dr retired. I finally got all three kids in as patients with a new dr and he got his check up and shots last week. (Yes, I know he is 21 months. It's a little late) I meant to blog last week, but I misplaced the paper that said how big he is. I found it though, so...here it is.

Height - 34.5" - 84%
Weight - 26 lbs 5 oz - 43%
Head - 91%

At his last check up, his weight was 88% (I think) and before that he was off the charts...so he is shrinking! Not really, he just did all his growing in the first year of life and has slowed down to let all the other kids catch up now.

In other news...I now have a FULL exempt daycare! I took on a new child last week, and will have another one starting in February. Now I can't take anymore kids unless I register, and they would have to be over 6 years old! I don't plan on registering though. I have no toys of interest for school age kids and don't want to bother buying any until my own kids are that age.

Anyway, that's all for now. Thad's work has picked up again. He worked 50 hours last week and is looking like he will be getting overtime this week too.

A cold day!

What do you do with 3 small children when the high for the day is 36?

You dress them really warm before you leave for the zoo!

Monkeys
Elephant! I didn't get it in this pictures, but the elephant had a baby not long ago. So we got to see the little baby elephant with its mommy!
Polar bear. This is the smaller one. The other one was huge! The sign said he was over 1000 lbs!

And the highlight of our trip to the zoo! "Bird land on mommy! Bird drink mommys juice all gone!"

Apparently, the birds thought Thad had some juice too!
"What a pretty baby!" (says the bird!)
The first bird invited his friends to share!
And that is what you do with small children with cabin fever on a cold day. Due to the cold, there was hardly anyone there! We had no trouble getting right up to the windows and fences to see the animals. Aside from the birds, Raquelle has been talking on and on about the lion, bear, and "big gecko" (crocodile) .

2 month check up

I took Keziah to a new dr for her 2 month check up. I really like her. She is giving us Diflucan for the thrush (her other dr said no to that), which means hopefully we will be over that in a week or two. Yeah! Anyway, here are her stats.

2 months
Height - 23" - 55% (So she is finally back up to her birth length!)
Weight - 12 lbs 1 oz - 65%

So, she is bigger then Raquelle was, but smaller then Titus...just like I predicted. Oh, and last night, she slept through the night for the first time!

2 months old!

I can't believe Keziah is already 2 months old! Where has the time gone? She is a very smiley, happy baby most of the time, but we are still waiting for that first laugh. She is starting to notice her toys! That means she is entertained for longer stretches on her play mats. I would post what her height and weight, but her check up isn't until tomorrow. I guess that gives me something to blog about tomorrow. My guess is that she is bigger then Raquelle and smaller then Titus at this age. I'm thinking maybe 12.5 lbs? She is quite chunky! She has major fat rolls on her thighs and cute little chipmonk cheeks. She is alreay wearing (and outgrowing some) 3 to 6 month clothes! Anyway...enough chat, here are some pictures I took tonight.

Snow, snow, GO AWAY!

Don't come back another day!!!

I'm sure everyone else in Salem is thrilled about the foot or so of snow we now have, but I'm ready for it to be gone. As much as I love the snow, I'm tired of being stuck home because we need chains to get out of the driveway, and I'd really like Thad to be able to go to work! Maybe I would enjoy the snow a little more if it wasn't making Thad have to miss work when he is out of paid time off. Since he has an outdoor job, when it snows like this, there is hardly any work. He missed two days last week, and there was no work for him today. Things aren't looking promising for tomorrow either. On Friday, he was one of only two people who got to work for 5+ counties! Aside from the snow having a negative effect on our income, things are now up in the air as to what is happening for Christmas. We were going to try to go to my parents house...that isn't happening now. Now they are going to try to come down...so we are praying that the roads will be clear enough for them.

Anyway...enough of my complaining. Aside from cabin fever, bad roads and no work for Thad, the snow really is pretty! I think we will have over a foot by bed time (had 10 inches last time I measured)! So, here are some pictures of our snow covered home.

This was taken standing on our front porch. Somewhere out there, there is a street and a side walk.
When Kayla showed up to pick up Lauren (the little girl I babysit), she got stuck in our driveway. Thad had to dig her car out and then put chains down behind her tires for her to get enough traction to get out of our driveway! So Thad decided to keep shoveling and did some work on our driveway and walkway. Notice how deep the snow is on the bumper of the car!
Our backyard, taken from our covered back patio so you can see how much snow is there is!
Here Thad is trying to knock snow and ice off of the trees and bushes beside our house so they don't die or break under the weight of the snow.

Anyway...that's all for now, and for everyone who prayed for a white Christmas, I hope you enjoy it! I'm guessing we have enough snow that it won't melt by Thursday!

Edited: I just went outside and measured our snow. We are now up to 13 inches!
